Pollution's impact on hair
With the increase in wildfires, you may want to be more diligent than usual with respect to the impact to your hair. Hair is one of the most sensitive parts of our body as it...
Gray hair is a natural part of the aging process. As your body ages, its ability to produce melanin decreases and hair loses pigment. This means you might start to notice white or gray hairs among your brown or black ones. But don't despair! There are plenty of ways you can keep your hair looking healthy and bright at any age.
Gray hair can be caused by several factors. It is the result of a decrease in melanin production and distribution in your hair follicles. This can occur because of aging or genetics, but it can also be caused by stress and diet.
While literally “one in a million” it’s interesting to note that some people are born with gray hair because they have an enzyme deficiency called tyrosinase-related protein 1 (TYRP1). This genetic mutation causes their skin cells to produce less melanin than normal humans do; therefore, making them appear older at birth due to the lack of pigmentation in their skin or eyesight.
Conditioner is especially good for gray or white hair. It can help keep your hair shiny, soft and healthy--and prevent it from getting dry or brittle. Select one that contains proteins, nutrients, amino acids and essential oils, particularly.
You can have this done at a salon or do it easily on your own. Consider onion oil, almond oil, bhringraj oil, amla oil, and Moroccan argan oil.
If you're looking to neutralize the yellow and orange tones in gray or white hair, try a shampoo with purple or blue tones. Blue tones are best for blondes with gray and white hair and purple is best for brunettes. Always use phosphate free and sodium free shampoo.
Gray hair can be an inevitable part of getting older, but it doesn't mean you have to give up hope of healthy, shiny hair! Gray hair and white hair can be absolutely beautiful and very much in style. If you elect to go with the grey as opposed to coloring it, there are many products that will provide healthy care and luster to your natural grey look. Every salon has excellent after care products for grey and white hair. We suggest that you ask your stylist and if you don’t have one, stop in a salon and ask for their product and care suggestions. Most stylists love to answer questions and help. They are generally very happy to provide product and care suggestions whether or not you are a client.
The best way to keep your hair healthy is by treating it well. Be sure to use the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type, and make sure it contains no harsh chemicals or artificial fragrances. You should also brush before you shower (or at least comb through with fingers), since this helps remove tangles that could otherwise lead to breakage or damage when wetting hair during washing process. As always with any beauty regimen: try not to overdo it and don’t be shy about asking a stylist for guidance.
